Funeral Organic Cotton Button-Up Dress

Omg I love this dress! It's so soft and really well made! The pockets are incredible!

One note: I probably could have gotten a small instead of a medium but because it has buttons down the front I didn't want to risk them pulling.
This makes the dress feel a little drapey and benefits from the matching belt adding some structure. The fullness and drapiness makes the dress breathable and comfy

The material is so soft and comfortable, and the loops are at the perfect height for me to wear this at a comfortable length either loose or belted and cinched. The pocket lining is sturdy and holds my phone without any noticeable shift in the dress hemline, which is a definite plus for me! Comfy, cool, and easy to move in are a plus. Admittedly, I should have ordered a size down, as the top is a big big in the chest for me, but it's nothing the right bra or corset can't fix. Thank you again for making another staple of my wardrobe for years to come!

Earlier this month, October 2024, my mother died. Alzheimer's. Terrible disease. Peace and blessings to anyone struggling with it. When I saw the reminder from the shop that there were some dresses left I jumped in. I wasn't even sure I would get the dress in time for the memorial service but didn't care; I needed a new dress anyway after years of illness and body changes. I was so thankful the sizing was very specific. Do not let the specificity deter you; I know it can be overwhelming. Take the time and patiently figure out what size will work best. I measured and re-measured myself, put one size in my cart, then re-measured myself again and swapped it for a different size :P I was glad I opted for the bigger size as it lay JUST right. The fabric, while also described, still surprised me as I was expecting a firmer linen style material as you normally would get with "shirt dresses" but this still gives the same look without the stiffness. This is soft, pliant and stretchy in all the right ways. I have sensory issues with clothing and this has no itchiness as it gently rests against your form. The perfect amount of comfort (e.g. lots) for a day when you need comfort. The pattern is quite nuanced and tasteful (wearing something death related to a funeral or memorial service is very on brand for me, If mom were alive I am sure she'd roll her eyes lol). I did get the dress right on time for my trip! I got several comments about it from family that were shockingly in the positive (family, amirite?) I just wanted to thank the team for such a lovely and COMFORTABLE dress at just the right time in my life. It's been a long time since I've had a really nice, complete outfit especially for a critical event. May everyone have the resources they require to get them through life and everyone be healed of sickness and its causes. And may everyone have just the right outfit they need.

this is ridiculously obnoxiously comfortable. i wasn't expecting the fabric to be this soft. i wear it at home, at the office, going out for fun, running errands. the pockets are great, and it's just so damn comfy. also obvi the pattern is beautiful!! i hate how clothes feel and this dress is safe. I'm so serious when i say it's worth the money. my least favorite thing about it is that it's distinctive enough that i don't wear it to work more than once a week. please make this in more patterns!!!!

I do not wear dresses, but I do love the Funeral pattern, so I set aside my quibbles and took the plunge to pre-order this dress.

FIT: I was very nervous about the fit, as the measurements on the sizing chart put me at a Small, when I am almost always a Medium+. To my surprise and delight, the sizing chart does not lie! It fits perfectly, not tight anywhere, not overly loose anywhere. Maya Kern makes an effort to make accurate sizing charts with details on how to choose a good fit and I have now experienced how trustworthy they are.
I'd also like to note that the fully button-up style makes it very versatile in how to put it on, which would be wonderful in the event of any arm or shoulder injury.

FABRIC: This is the single most luxurious piece of clothing I own. I'm extremely tactile and sensitive to textures and this dress is a delight to the senses. It's unbelievably soft and drapes so comfortably over the body. Dresses make me incredibly uncomfortable as a rule, hence why I have never worn them before unless required.
But this dress made me feel so at ease to wear. The length covers everything, the fit is nonrestrictive and gentle, I cannot stress well enough that if you are unsure about dresses and want to give them a try that this is the perfect dress to do so with.

PRICE: I know price is a sensitive topic, and indeed this is no small amount of money. However, this piece comes from a small business that works hard to maintain communication about their production process and to make sure that process is ethical and sustainable. The quality of the products is proof of that. I believe it's well worth it, and I feel happier spending this kind of money for wearable art made with a high degree of professionalism and love for the communities it serves.

All in all, I really adore this dress and I finally feel comfortable doing the girly thing and wearing a cute dress ♥
