The package arrived, somehow, magically, at nearly midnight. It was certainly not there when I arrived home.
But there it was.
And I opened the package and knew that for my big presentation today, I simply had to wear the fire skirt immediately, and to add the black petticoat. I was not even in the office five minutes before someone said they loved my skirt.
Thanks, I said. It had pockets.
The gasp, the amazement, the demands to know from whence I’d purchased such a wonder were instant.
I hid an entire large teddy bear in one pocket for the presentation. Nobody knew until the bear was out.
And I have never worn anything I’ve purchased without first washing it. But I felt safe to wear this particular skirt and its petticoat.
